Methodist Tops Covenant 2-0 In USA South Soccer

Host Methodist used a goal in both the first and second half to defeat the Covenant men's soccer team 2-0 in USA South action on Saturday afternoon in Fayetteville.

Covenant drops to 1-6-1 overall and 1-3 inside the USA South, while Methodist goes to 4-3-1 on the year and remains perfect in league play at 2-0.

Methodist broke through in the 19th minute when Frederik Aalberg found the back of the net, assisted by Seth Harrison, to take a 1-0 lead in the contest. Covenant had limited opportunities in the opening 45 minutes of play and went into the halftime break down 1-0.

In the second half, the Scots created more chances and took eight shots, with two on target, but were unable to break into the scoring column.
Josh Brower and David Miller both had attempts on target, but both were saved by Methodist keeper Jonathan Moore. 

Methodist grabbed a 2-0 lead in the 67th minute on a Harrison goal, his second of the year. 

After making 11 saves in Friday's loss at N.C. Wesleyan, Covenant keeper Jonathan Crossman collected five saves. Moore made two saves for the host Monarchs. Methodist held a 22-11 shot advantage. Brower led the Scots with four attempts, while Isaac Johnson had three. The two teams also combined for 32 fouls and four yellow cards on the afternoon.

UP NEXT

Covenant will travel to Birmingham Southern on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. EDT.
