James B. “Dee“ McKenzie, 97, a life long resident of Decatur, went home to be with the Lord on September 30, 2017 at Morning Pointe of Athens.
He was retired from Volunteer Energy Corp. He was a faithful and beloved member of the Decatur First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over 50 years. He was also a member of Meigs Masonic Lodge #213 for over 50 years and was in the Scottish Rite. He had served in the United States Coast Guard during WWII and was a member of the American Legion Post 79.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry M. and Mary Elizabeth Jarvis McKenzie; his wife of 50 years, Jimmie Lee Armstrong McKenzie; and one sister, Willie Ashley.
Survivors include his sons, Gary McKenzie of Vonore, Tn. and Wayne McKenzie of Decatur, Tn. Nieces, nephews, and other extended family and a host of friends also survive.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Decatur First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jamey Davis and Dr. Jimmy McCarter officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
The family will receive friends on Monday, Oct. 2, from 3-9 p.m., and on Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 12-2 p.m. at Decatur First Baptist Church.
