MAINx24 will be Dec. 2 in Chattanooga's Southside

The 11th annual MAINx24 street party will take place on the Southside on Saturday, Dec. 2, starting at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast fundraiser at Fire Hall #1.

This year, the $5 pancake breakfast will benefit the Forgotten Child Fund of Chattanooga, a non-profit run by the fire and police departments. Attendees are encouraged to bring a new toy or winter coat to donate to local children in need.

The 24-hour long festival will continue with people in the streets, music in the air and the aromas of Chattanooga food. Events include local shops offering discounts and door prizes, restaurants offering specials, artisans in action, poetry, caroling, music, dancing, food and fun for all ages - all in celebration of Main Street and the surrounding Southside.

For the first time, the festival will include fireworks. Meet on Station Street at 7 p.m. for the best views of the GreenTech Homes Fireworks Display.

Here are other events that are back again this year:

MAINx24 EPB Southside Parade, Main Street, 10:30 a.m.

World Heavyweight Chili Championship supporting Green|Spaces at Office Coordinators, Inc., 11:30 a.m.

Opioid Questions

I see now Governor Bredesen is running ads criticizing Rep. Blackburn for her support of the opioid bill. I do not know enough about opioids to offer an educated opinion but I am pretty good in math. The word ‘ignobel’ is rarely used because only a few among us know that it means "characterized by baseness, lowness, or meanness." About 30 years ago, a glorious group of great scholars took a literary hatchet to form the word into ‘ig nobel’ so it could be placed in the dictionary as a term that means “a satirical social criticism that identifies absurd research.” Think of ...
