Tuoyo, McLean Honored By National Association of Basketball Coaches

  • Wednesday, March 22, 2017
The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) released its All-District squads Wednesday morning. Chattanooga Mocs seniors Justin Tuoyo and Tre’ McLean are two of 250 NCAA Division I student-athletes honored by the organization.

The Southern Conference comprises District 22. The Mocs and league co-champion Furman were the only schools with multiple student-athletes awarded.

Tuoyo was joined on the first team by Devin Sibley (Furman), T.J. Cromer (ETSU), Eric Garcia (Wofford) and Kris Acox (Furman).
The 2016 graduate won his third straight SoCon Defensive Player of the Year award leading the league once again in blocked shots.

McLean led a guard-heavy second team grouping. It included Q.J. Peterson (VMI), Diante Baldwin (UNCG), Ria’n Holland (Mercer) and Wyatt Walker (Samford). McLean’s 35 points leading the come-from-behind win over Marshall in December were the most by a Moc since Z. Mason’s 41 in a December 10, 2013 matchup with Hiwassee and highest total against DI competition since Ricky Taylor’s 41 in a double overtime triumph over UNCG on Jan. 27, 2011.

Tuoyo was a first team All-SoCon selection by the league coaches earlier this month, while making the second team in the media vote. McLean received third team consideration by both entities. A nation-wide listing is attached.
