Baylor Girls Soccer Advance To State Quarterfinals

  • Tuesday, October 16, 2018

The Baylor girls soccer team hosted Ensworth on Tuesday in the first round of the Division II-AA state tournament.

After playing to a 0-0 tie in the first half Baylor would score two goals in the second half to earn the playoff win.

Baylor's Ara Rhodes scored off a Maddie Reap corner kick in the 55th minute and Avery Davis scored on a penalty kick in the 57th minute.

Baylor advances to the state quarterfinals and will play at Briarcrest on Saturday in Memphis.

"I thought we moved the ball too slowly in the first half," Baylor head coach Curtis Blair said.  "I thought we played some great soccer in the second half.

Our ball movement and our movement off the ball was very good that we could start finding gaps in their defense. You have to give credit to Coach Danny Wright and Ensworth because they did a great job of closing the passing lanes. I am proud of our girls tonight."

Baylor out shot Ensworth 12-3.   Shannon Urey had three saves for Baylor in the goal.  Baylor improves to 13-4-2 on the season.

Winners of state quarterfinals will advance to the semifinals on Thursday in Murfreesboro.   The state championship game will also be played in Murfreesboro on Friday.
