Moc Golfers Sixth At Autotrader Collegiate

  • Tuesday, October 16, 2018
The Chattanooga Mocs completed the Autotrader Collegiate in fine form with a 6-under 282. That gave the Mocs a 7-under 857 total good for sixth-place overall.

The 282 tied for the second-best 18 of the day. It was nearly three strokes better than the field’s average. That came courtesy of another excellent round from sophomore Oliver Simonsen.

Simonsen fired his second-best score of 2018-19 with an 8-under 64. It was an impressive display as just eight student-athletes broke 70 today after 30 such cards yesterday at Berkeley Hills Country Club.

Moritz Lammel supported the effort with 1-under 71, his first par or better card in just his second collegiate outing, first as a starter.
Etienne Brault added 72, while Leon Bader and Will Porter each turned in 75. Lake Johnson shot 71 as an individual ahead of fellow Mocs Dominic Jones (76), Connor Nolan (77) and Alex Cobb (86) playing on their own.

Simonsen’s 64 included a spotless card of eight birdies and 10 pars. Lammel was close to matching the zero bogey standard with two birdies, 15 pars and just one over-par mark. That duo sparked a four-spot jump in the leaderboard for the group.

The Mocs moved past Boston College and Richmond, which tied for seventh at 858 along with Western Kentucky and Loyola (Md.) in ninth at 862. UTC ended up five behind James Madison in fifth with 852.

Simonsen moved 26 spots up the leader earning his third straight top 10 tying for 10th with a 7-under total of 209. Porter had his second par or better finish of the season ending up 30th at level-par 216. Brault was two behind him tying for 33rd at 218, while the trio of Bader, Lammel and Johnson all shot 219 and in a tie for 40th.

Georgia Southern won the team title by one over UNCG. The Eagles finished with 829, while the Spartans shot 830. GSU’s Steven Fisk claimed medalist honors at 17 under (199).
