Charles Lebron Melton
A 21-year-old Chattanooga man has been sentenced to serve two years in federal prison on a gun charge.
Charles Lebron Melton appeared before Judge Travis McDonough.
Chattanooga Police executed a search warrant on an apartment on May 8, 2017. Several people, including Melton, were inside. Police said Melton's eyes were glassy and he appeared to be high on marijuana. A gun was found and Melton said it was his.
Police on July 14, 2017, made a traffic stop on a car Melton was driving. Police said he was not maintaining his lane and not using his turn signal when changing lanes. The officer said he had to slam on his brakes to avoid hitting the vehicle.
Police said the car smelled of marijuana. Officers found two bags of marijuana inside. Also, a gun was found in a Taco Bell bag. Melton said he carried the gun for protection because he has been shot several times and was consistently followed when he was going home.
Melton said he smoked marijuana every day and had since he was 12 years old.
