The Chattanooga Tree Commission, the M.L. King Neighborhood Association and Chattanooga residents will celebrate Arbor Day on Friday, March 2, at 2 p.m. at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center with the ceremonial planting of a Japanese Zelkova. Assisting in the planting and celebration will be officials from the City of Chattanooga.
These are the first of 29 trees that are being installed to enhance the livability of the M.L. King neighborhood located just east of the Central Business District. A representative from the Tennessee Division of Forestry will certify Chattanooga as a Tree City Community for the 28th consecutive year. The public is invited to attend.
On the following day, Saturday, March 3, beginning at 9 a.m. 18 trees will be planted by volunteers from the M.L. King Neighborhood and the Volkswagen Volunteers. Anyone wishing to participate in the Saturday planting event will be welcomed. All necessary tools and trees will be provided.
