Michael George Griffin, 89, of Chattanooga Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2018.

Mike was born on March 13, 1929 in Grand Rapids, Mi. As a graduate of the University of Denver, Mike enjoyed a distinguished career in aviation-related business(s) for 60 years. Over his lifetime, his love of music resulted in the promotion of various jazz concerts. Artists included Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, and numerous national traditional jazz musicians. A true renaissance man, Mike loved travel, poetry, fine art and foods. He was an avid runner, and enthusiastic duck hunter. 

Civically minded, Mike donated much time to support many local advisory boards and charities. His dedication to family culminated in many Lake Michigan beach reunions. Mike and his loving wife Astrid, lived life to its fullest!

Mike was especially thankful for the professional care he received from the medical doctors and staff at the Cleveland Clinic (Ohio).

Mike was preceded in death by his former wife, Bonnie Ederle and their son, Matthew Griffin.

Surviving him is his Dutch-born wife of 40 years, Maria Astrid Griffin, his children, Michelle Griffin of Newport Beach, Ca.; Meeghan Kenney of Chicago, Il. (Morgan, and Spencer) and Michael Griffin (Amy) of Salt Lake City, Ut. (Patrick and David).

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 2, at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church at 10 a.m. followed by a celebration of his life at the Mountain City Club.
