Birmingham, AL --  Avoiding being no hit last night the Lookouts managed their first hit of the game in Birmingham in the fifth inning off of starter Dane Dunning. He would work eight innings with ten strikeouts in the 3-0 Barons win.

The Lookouts trail the first-place Jackson Generals by 2 1/2 games with just three games remaining. The next Jackson win or Lookouts loss means that Chattanooga, co-champions of the 2017 Southern League crown, must win the second-half in order to make the post-season playoffs this year..

Dunning (5-2) was sharp from the outset Thursday, retiring the first 12 batters before Chris Paul singled to start the fifth inning. He struck out four of those batters, getting back to pounding the zone.He was a first-round pick out of Florida back in 2016 and made most of the top 100 prospect lists this season. He was originally drafted by the Nationals, who traded him to the Chicago White Sox.

Lookouts starter Omar Bencomo (5-1) was tapped for nine hits but had seven strikeouts of his own.

Tyler Jay (two innings) and Cody Stashak (one inning) combined for a scoreless night from the bullpen

After collecting 16 hits in Thursday's game, it was a really rough night for the Chattanooga bats. The Lookouts were shut out, only had five hits, drew zero walks and struck out 11 times.

Edgar Corcino got the only extra-base hit of the night for Chattanooga, a double.
