  • Monday, July 2, 2018

Police said video from a church parking lot led to the arrest of a 20-year-old man for a home invasion murder at a residence on Hickory Valley Road.

Christopher Robinson was shot and killed during the incident on Friday shortly after 1 a.m.

Miles Alexander Hankins, who listed his address as Antioch, Tn., has been charged with criminal homicide and especially aggravated robbery.

Police say Hankins was also involved in a shooting at 2400 Glass St. the previous day.

Christopher Davis, son of Christopher Robinson, said he was playing video games in his bedroom when he heard a loud boom coming from the rear of the residence. He said he saw two black males wearing black hoodies and bandanas over their faces.

They were coming from the kitchen toward the hallway leading to his and his parents' rooms.

He said one of the robbers pointed a gun in his direction and said, "Give me all the money."

The son said he retreated to his bedroom and closed and locked the door. He said he tried to alert his parents as to what was happening by yelling and hitting his bedroom wall.

He said he then heard a gunshot and what sounded like someone running out of the residence.

He said he was told by his step-brother, Ezell Jinks, that his father had been shot.

Police located Christopher Robinson in the residence with a gunshot wound to the chest. He died at the scene.

Investigators located security cameras at Hickory Valley Baptist Church. It showed a silver Mercedes-Benz fleeing the scene at 1:23 a.m. at a high rate of speed. Police said the same vehicle had been at the scene of the Glass Street shooting.

Hankins was brought in for questioning and said he had fired shots toward two people at 2400 Glass St.

He said his vehicle was used to go to the Hickory Valley Road address and his gun was used in the shooting of the victim. He claimed he had stayed in the vehicle and was in the front passenger seat when the homicide was carried out. Police said video clearly shows someone entering the front passenger side prior to the vehicle speeding off.
