Fred Douglas Jinks IV, affectionally known as “Tookie,” entered the realm of heaven on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at the age of 51.

Fred was born in Chattanooga on May 20, 1967. He attended school in Chattanooga, graduating from Tyner High School in the class of 1985. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1986 and became a Corpsman. After assignments in San Diego, Central America, and Desert Storm, he received an honorable discharge.
 
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Nancy Wood Jinks, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Wood, Mr. Fred Douglas Jinks Jr., and Mr. Harry Jackson, aunt, Mrs. Alma Edwards Cain, and great-aunts, Mrs. Bessie Freeman, Mrs. Bernice Craig, Mrs. Dorothy Winbush, and Mrs. Lillian Smith; all of whom he visited frequently until their deaths.
 
Fred is survived by his grandmother whom he loved dearly, Mrs. Catherine Jinks Jackson, daughter Brittany Jinks and her children, of San Diego, California, father Fred Douglas Jinks, III (Annette), birth mother Linda Jinks, sister Traci Ramsey (Mark) of Plano, Texas, step siblings, Reginald Yearby (Cheryl) and Quisha Montgomery all of Chattanooga. Other survivors are aunts, Shirley Merritt and Dorothy Matlock of Charleston, Tennessee, Gayle Wood of Knoxville, uncles Benjamin Wood (Elonda) of Knoxville, Stan Wood (Patricia) of Memphis, Winifred (Kay) Wood, and Brian Jackson (Rhea) of Knoxville; niece, Brooke Lynn. He is also survived by a host of cousins and family friends: Linda (Randy) Stargin, Valerie (Tap) Browdy, Chessie (Nathan) Burch, the Charmayne Ramsey family, Charlie Mae Hurt, and Betty O’Neal.
 
Public viewing will start at noon on Thursday, July 26, at the John P. Franklin Funeral Home at 1101 Dodds Ave., followed by visitation with the family at 6 p.m. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
 
The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 27, at 12 p.m. at the Greater Second Baptist Church, 810 Shallowford Road.
