Roy Rogers was one of my many cowboy heroes growing up and the 25 cent movies on Saturdays. Whether it was Roy or Gene or the Red Ryder they were exciting, daring, heroic adventures fighting off bank robbers, cattle rustlers and the other lowly characters in each movie. The hero always won and the bad guy always lost.
Today and for the next few days a celebration of sorts will be aired honoring the life of another, and real hero, John McCain. John McCain wore his hero mantel as did the cowboy heroes of my youth.
We have few characters of such distinction and honor as is John McCain but all seems lost on the twice deferred, bone spurs of Donald J. Trump. Trump bows to the lowest denominator in so many opportunities missed because someone stepped on his ego. Heroes are big people but Trump remains small in my eyes and opinion.
The voters in this country have a great opportunity coming soon to make changes, changes that could honor the great history of a remarkable man, John McCain. I wonder if the voters have a memory that long till November?
