Cleveland Mayor Tom Rowland will participate in a fundraiser to benefit the YMCA Y-CAP Cleveland program on Sept. 27 at First Baptist Church Cleveland, 1275 Stuart Road Northeast. Doors open at 6 p.m.; dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The program runs 6-7:30 p.m. Tickets are available on Eventbrite here for $35. The event is open to the public.
Mayor Rowland has served Cleveland for six terms – making him the longest serving mayor, with more than 26 years of leadership. "His long history of community accomplishments and support of the YMCA organization as a whole, as well as to the YMCA Y-CAP program, will make for a great lighthearted 'Roast' that will also help the YCMA YCAP program to grow their outreach," officials said.
Y-CAP is an early intervention prevention program for at-risk youth, serving both males and females ages 10-14. The program has existed in Bradley County since 2002, but just recently moved to a permanent location, 1305 Smith Dr. in Cleveland. "This new location will position the program to serve even more youth in Bradley County," officials said.
Y-CAP helps reach youth by offering programs such as group therapy, boxing and woodshop. To date, Y-CAP has served more than 1,000 youth.
“We are very grateful for the support of leaders in our community like Tom Rowland,” said Andy Smith, YMCA Y-CAP district executive. “This event is both fun and entertaining for everyone, as well as enables us to continue to serve area youth.”
