U.S. Army Veteran Retired From TVA After 37 Years

Francis William “Bill” Bryan, 94, formerly of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away on September 28, 2020, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. 

 

He was the son of the late William Floey Bryan and Elizabeth Morgan Bryan of Jesup, Ga. After graduating high school in 1944, he was inducted into the Army and served tours in the Philippines and Japan during World War II. Upon completion of his service, he enrolled at South Georgia State College where he played on the football team. He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in electrical engineering and was subsequently employed by Tennessee Valley Authority for 37 years, until his retirement. 

 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Jean Mikell Bryan, also formerly of Cleveland, Tn.

 

He is survived by daughters, Pamela (Andrew) Grayson of Birmingham, Al., and Francine Bryan of Cleveland, Tn.; son, Greg Bryan of Las Vegas, Ne.; grandchildren, Bryan (Marissa) Grayson, Matthew (Katie) Grayson, Jonathan (Amy) Grayson, Amanda Claire (Zealan) Hoover, Alexander Bryan and Veronica Bryan; five great-grandchildren; brother John Andrew Bryan of Hinesville, Ga., and several nieces and nephews. 

 

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Oh. 45250 or at www.dav.org.

 

Per the current health situation and mandate of the Hamilton County Mayor, visitors must adhere to all CDC guidelines, including social distancing and the wearing of facial coverings for visitation and/or services.

 

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
