The annual Erlanger VolunTEENs program now accepts applications for the summer 2024 term. The program is open to high school students interested in future clinical and non-clinical roles in healthcare, including administrative and support services.
Every summer, Erlanger hosts this six-week summer program, providing high school students with hands-on experience within the healthcare setting. Participants work in various roles supporting staff and patients while gaining exposure to the region’s only teaching hospital and an opportunity to see firsthand various healthcare career opportunities in both clinical and non-clinical areas.
The volunteer program is available at six Erlanger locations: Erlanger Baroness Hospital, Children’s Hospital at Erlanger, Erlanger East Hospital, Erlanger North Hospital, Erlanger Sequatchie Valley Emergency Department, Erlanger Bledsoe Hospital and Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital.
“The Erlanger VolunTEENs Program gives high school students their first look at the many rewarding careers in healthcare.
They spend the summer learning at the region’s only teaching hospital while serving their community and making great new friends,” said Callie Vandemark, service learning coordinator.
The VolunTEENs program runs every summer for six weeks in June and July. Interested high school students can access the application on Erlanger’s website and will be required to schedule an interview. Interviews will be held in Chattanooga, Murphy, NC, Pikeville and Dunlap from April 11-18. The program is open to students who are rising sophomores through rising college freshmen. Participants must be 15 years old by June 1.
