Registration Open For 2nd Annual Dalton Parks And Rec Spring Break Camp

  • Thursday, March 14, 2024
Registration is now open for the Dalton Parks and Recreation Department's Spring Break Camp. The camp will run April 1-5 and is open to kids ages seven through 12. The camp will cost $100 per camper, with financial assistance available for families who qualify.

Officials said, "This is the second year for the Parks Department's Spring Break Camp. The program was met with positive reviews last year, so the department decided to double the camp in size from 40 campers in 2023 to 80 slots for kids this year."

The camp will be held at the Mack Gaston Community Center, with activities ranging from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related learning to sports, games and arts and crafts projects.
The department is also planning daily excursions for the campers around town.

"We’re going to give the kids an option to participate in areas that interest them," said Caitlin Sharpe, Dalton's Parks and Recreation director. "When we provide a program, it might be hourly or every two hours, they'll be able to select an option between one or two activities, where they’re doing something that interests them and it’s not just forcing them to do an arts and crafts project if they aren’t interested in arts and crafts, for example.

"It’s going to be a new concept we’re trying just in hopes of really keeping the interests of the kids engaged and having a good time. Our ultimate goal is to send them home tired, but also thinking that they can’t wait to come back the next day, so our staff has been getting creative with what we can provide."

Registration for the camp is currently open at the Parks and Recreation Department's website or by calling 706-278-5404. Registration for the camp will end on March 22, or when the 80 available slots fill up.
