Chief John Ross Chapter, NSDAR had their March meeting on the 13th, and the meeting theme was Women’s History Month.
Officials said, "Chapter member, Kay Sencabaugh, presented an entertaining program on Nancy Hart, a true Revolutionary War Patriot. Ms. Sencabaugh shared a little history and some of the facts and legends that surround Nancy Hart. She also shared her personal experience portraying Nancy Hart during a community drama performance. Chapter members enthusiastically enjoyed the presentation about DAR Patriot Nancy Hart.
"Celebrating women continued throughout the meeting and included making a little history.
DAR’s National Defense Committee has an annual award and medal for ROTC members. The NSDAR has been awarding The Gold ROTC Medal since 1967. Here in Chattanooga, the honor of presenting The Gold ROTC Medal to a student in the UTC ROTC is shared among the five local DAR chapters. This year was Chief John Ross Chapter's turn to honor a cadet. Regent Harvey and Ret. Navy Commander Patty Parks presented the award to Ja’Toria Powell. Cadet Powell is a proud second year MOC who is working full-time as she earns credits toward degrees in environmental science and Spanish and completing a minor in music, where she enjoys playing flute and piano."
The chapter’s next meeting is April 10, where members will celebrate 101 years of serving the Chattanooga community.
