Glendora V. Johnson, (aka. Mother, Nanny, Aunt Glen) was born on March 27, 1927, to the late Tom and Flora Smith in Bakewell, Tn. She was the youngest of nine children and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Pleasant Hill A.M.E. Zion Church of Bakewell, Tn., for over 50 years where she served as deaconess, president of the Missionary Society, Mothers Board, Trustee, Choir Member and played the piano.
She had a passion for caring for people and worked as a nursing assistant at the Rhea County Nursing Home until her retirement. After retirement, she continued to work as a private caregiver taking care of seniors throughout the community. She enjoyed playing piano, cooking, baking, and traveling with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Johnson and her daughter, Annette Martin.
Glendora leaves behind to cherish her memories, her children Twanda Hughes, Bakewell TN; Kathy Sanders, Soddy Daisy; Carl Martin (Peggy), Chattanooga; Tyris Johnson, Bakewell; and Tim Williams (Toi), Johnson City; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Glendora V. Johnson will be held on Saturday, March 30, at 1 p.m. at Ponders Brainerd Chapel, 4203 Brainerd Road, Chattanooga. Following the service, she will be laid to rest with her husband at the Pleasant Hill AME Zion Church Cemetery in Bakewell.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Brainerd Chapel after 10 a.m. on Saturday until the service hour.
