The City of Chattanooga invites the public to review initial designs and ideas for the proposed transformation of the 3rd and 4th Street corridor and connection to Riverfront Parkway. Designers say the improvements will enhance safety, ease traffic congestion, and increase accessibility, while also creating an appealing corridor that reconnects the downtown area. The meeting will be held on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at UTC - University Center, Chattanooga Room, 642 E. 5th St.
Following public meetings in September, the project team incorporated feedback on opportunities for economic development and on improving the experience of people driving, biking, and walking.
The new connections will unite neighborhoods with community anchors like the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, the Chattanooga School for the Art & Sciences, Siskin and Erlanger.
Officials said, "The 3rd and 4th Street upgrades will encourage economic development through improving traffic flow, strengthening connectivity, and promoting safety for everyone including pedestrians. While increasing economic activity is one goal, the project will also explore adding direct connections to the Riverwalk and alleviating stormwater issues."
The 3rd and 4th Street corridor extends from Lindsay Street to Hampton Street, and the project includes the connection to Riverfront Parkway. For more information, visit
