  • Saturday, August 22, 2015

The Baylor girls soccer team hosted 7 teams this weekend for their annual soccer tournament.

Collierville (Memphis), Arlington (Memphis), Collierville (Memphis), Briarcrest (Memphis), East Hamilton, GPS and Notre Dame were represented.

The Red Raiders lost their first two matches to Briarcrest and Collierville.

Against Briarcrest on Friday, Baylor was down 2-0 after two goals from Brittany Hatmaker. Baylor's Kamryn Bloh scored in the 65th minute assisted by Chloe Maize.

Baylor faced off with Collierville on Saturday morning.  Collierville scored three goals in the first half and went on to a 4-1 win.  Sarah Balkcom, Elizabeth Slavinsky and Hannah Nelson had first half goals for Collierville.  Kate Johnson gave Collierville a 4-0 lead before Lainee Bohannon would put Baylor on the board.

In Baylor's final game on Saturday, the Red Raiders beat Arlington 4-0.  First half goals were scored by Chloe Maize and Lainee Bohannon with assists from Carter Cooper and Rachel Paty.  Katelyn Smith and Kamryn Bloh would score goals in the second half.  Smith's goal was assisted by Maddie Reap.

"In the long run this was a great weekend for us," Baylor head coach Curtis Blair said.  "We knew the teams would be good but it also showed us some areas that we have to get better in over this next week. We got stretched physically and mentally this weekend and hopefully we grow from it.  I don't think we played very well at times, but we are still learning how to play hard the entire time. We haven't learned that yet, but it is a process and we are working on it every minute that we step on the field."

GPS beat Bartlett 2-1 on Friday and lost to 4-0 to Briarcrest on Saturday.
