Girls Preparatory School has named Lynne Macziewski, an experienced school leader and award-winning teacher at Blake School in Hopkins, Mn., as the school’s new head of middle school.

Mrs. Macziewski is currently the interim middle school assistant director at Blake, which has been named best private high school in Minnesota in a national ranking for two consecutive years. With a bachelor’s degree in biology and secondary education and an M.A. in curriculum and instruction from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Mn., she is currently pursuing a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership. As a part of her master's program, she has focused on women in leadership and the early factors that support or inhibit their success — an area of interest that she says drew her to GPS.

GPS Head of School Dr. Autumn Graves said, “Early in the interview process, Lynne articulated how differently boys and girls learn, evidenced by her many years of experience in a coed school.” She is a master 21st-century teacher known for her ability to mentor and coach faculty and is highly regarded for her relationship-building skills.”

In her career at Blake, she has held several leadership roles: lead administrator on the Middle School Community Taskforce to develop a stronger school and family partnership and interim PK-12 Science Department co-chair among others. She co-developed Blake’s Middle School advisory program with a focus on social and emotional growth.

In 2010, she received the Youth Service of America’s Award for Environmental Educators. In 2014, she was honored by students and parents for her outstanding teaching and advising with the school-wide Juliet Nelson Award.

Mrs. Macziewski will begin her position at GPS in July. She will be joined by her husband Nathan and their two children.

“I look forward to the wonderful learning and school life experiences that she will help foster at GPS for our girls,” added Dr. Graves.
