Mocs Filar Signs Two More Recruits

  • Wednesday, April 26, 2017
Head coach Travis Filar and the Chattanooga Mocs volleyball staff officially announced two additions to the 2017 roster on Wednesday afternoon.

Megan Kaufman and Bailey Bennett will be joining Maddie Halsey, a Michigan native who signed back in November, in the 2017 recruiting class and will be newcomers on campus in the fall.

"We are so excited to finally announce the addition of Megan and Bailey to our 2017 class and our Chattanooga Volleyball family," said Filar. "Although it is a smaller class with a total of three student-athletes, our program is improving in the areas of volleyball IQ, athleticism, competitiveness, and confidence.

"These three individuals come from incredible families, they embrace and value the true meaning of being a student-athlete, and most importantly they are great teammates with the potential to lead, as all members of this class have been multi-year captains during their athletic careers."

A resident of Liberty Township, Ohio, Megan Kaufman will join the Mocs as a defensive specialist/libero in 2017.
Kaufman is a two-time winner of "Best Defensive Player" in high school at Lakota West and holds multiple school records including digs in a career and digs in a single season.

"Megan embodies what we look for in a backcourt-only player in our program, someone who competes with relentlessness, positive energy, selflessness, a non-stop motor, and a mindset that no one will outwork her," stated Filar. "It's these characteristics, along with her technical skill and dynamic ability as an athlete, that have set Megan apart from other liberos in her career."

An honoree of the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) "2015 Phenom List", Kaufman plays out of the Elevation Volleyball Club in Cincinnati, Ohio. She has been the team captain in high school for the past two seasons and has been named to the GMC (Greater Miami Conference) First Team for three years straight. An All-Ohio Honorable Mention, Kaufman holds a 3.90 GPA in the classroom and is a two-time recipient of the GMC All-Academic Award.

Bailey Bennett, a native of College Station, Texas, will come to Chattanooga volleyball in 2017 as primarily a right-side hitter. A three-year All-District selection, Bennett was tabbed Offensive MVP for College Station High School in 2016 as she led the team in kills.

"Bailey is an athlete that I saw early on in her sophomore club season who at first impressed me as an extremely smart and efficient attacker who competed with a great presence on the court, one well beyond her years," added Filar.  "As an attacker, Bailey will provide a dynamic ability on the right side as we have never had a lefty in our gym. However, what has been the most exciting thing to see in her development, is how Bailey has transformed her game and level of ball control with hard work, and has become a go-to six-rotation player for her high school and club."

A three-year letter winner in volleyball at College Station, she also added two letters by competing in track and field. A member of the National Honor Society (NHS), Bennett was named to the All-District All-Academic Team for three-straight years. She played club ball with Woodlands Revolution where she was the captain from 2014-16.
