John Tucker
John William Tucker, 95, of Chattanooga, died on Tuesday, March 20, 2012.
He was born in Manchester, Ga., to the late Walter Rogers and Blanche LaGrone Tucker, and was a graduate of Auburn University.
Mr. Tucker was a member of Grace Episcopal Church for 45 years where he served on the board. He was chairman of the board at St. Nicholas School for 10 years. He was an engineer with Combustion Engineering, retiring after 40 years of service.
After his retirement from Combustion, he practiced as a Registered Patent Agent, and assisted many local inventors in obtaining patents on their inventions. Mr. Tucker served with the Army Corps of Engineers in Iceland during World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Miriam Tucker; three daughters, Diana (William) Maywhort, Lisa (David) Irwin and Sally (Tommy) Stroud; one son Garry (Gayle) Tucker; sister, Helen Tucker Evans; seven grandchildren, Ben Credle, Tucker and Whitney Irwin, Tommy, Wes and Ansley Stroud, and Inglis Tucker; two great-grandchildren Will and Gwendolyn Credle.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 24, at 1 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church. A reception will follow in the Merit Room.
