Local Governmental Agencies Partner With Area Schools To Celebrate International Walk To School Month

This City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County have partnered with Chattanooga area elementary and middle schools for International Walk to School Month.

In the United States, International Walk to School Month is expected to include more than 4,000 events across all 50 states. Walkers from the U.S. will join children and adults in 40 countries around the world.

Walk to School events create awareness of the need to create safe routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, and creating connections between families, schools, and the broader community. 

Parents, teachers, and community leaders will participate with students at these scheduled Walk to School events in October:

Brown International Academy, 10/22/14, 7:45 a.m.,  at UTC Challenger Center;
Dalewood Middle School, 10/23/14, 7:15 a.m., at school;
East Lake Elementary School, 10/22/14, 7:15 a.m., at East Lake YFDC/Darwin Field;
East Lake Academy, 10/24/14, 3 p.m.,at school to East Lake Park;
Hardy Elementary, 10/22/14, on-going, at school - students walk to fire station #4;
Lakeside Elementary School, 10/24/14, 8:15 a.m., at Terra Vista Church;
Orchard Knob Elementary School, 10/21/14, 7:15 a.m., at Carver YFDC;
Red Bank Elementary School, 10/31/14,2 p.m., at school;
Soddy Elementary School, 10/21/14, 8 a.m., at Kids Park; and
Woodmore Elementary School, 10/22/14, 7:15 a.m., at New Monumental Church.

These events have been organized by the individual schools in cooperation with city and county departments.
 Representatives from the following departments will walk with the students.
