Sean Lee, a sophomore at Dalton High School, has been selected by a panel of judges as the recipient of the 2014 Karen Lightbody Kirkman Piano Scholarship presented by the Dalton Education Foundation. He is the son of Ann and Rick Lee. Sean enjoys several musical genres including classical, hymn, jazz and new age. He is always ready for a good challenge to convey the emotional power of music. Sean’s talent is not limited to the Fine Arts as he is also a member of the DHS Swim Team.
The scholarship is given annually to a student in Dalton Public Schools and provides $750 towards a year’s worth of piano lessons.
It is designed to encourage a talented piano student to use his or her talents for the benefit of the community including the requirement of volunteer public performances on the part of the winner.
The scholarship was established in 1996 in memory of the late Mrs. Kirkman, a 1962 Dalton High School graduate who donated her musical abilities for many years to the Dalton community through school, church and other civic performances.
“Mrs. Kirkman was a friend, mother, wife, volunteer, encourager and much more to this community. I remember her playing for community and school events when I was younger. The Foundation Board is proud to partner with the Kirkman family to continue her legacy today.” said Bob Bethel, president of Dalton Education Foundation.
