Juliette Biondi
Chattanooga State Community College chose two employees as recipients of its annual Excellence Awards for 2014-2015. Juliette Biondi was selected for the Professional Staff award and Tina Ewton won the Clerical/Support Staff award. Both women were presented a $500 check from the Chattanooga State Foundation and provided an opportunity to attend the annual League of Innovation awards conference in Boston, Mass.
As coordinator of High School Programs, working with others – and working successfully – is the cornerstone of Ms. Biondi's job. She acts as a liaison between high schools and Chattanooga State, streamlining the experience of more than 1,200 Early College, Collegiate High and STEM School students.
In his nomination letter, the assistant vice president of Student Affairs, Brad McCormick pointed out, “This is a massive team and Juliette coordinates it. Without formal authority, she leads it. She demonstrates her profound belief that great work is founded on successful relationships, both in the community and on campus.”
Ms. Ewton has worked in the IMC Building every day for the past 15 years and is considered one of the very best custodial staff members on campus. Well known by students, faculty and staff, it is not unusual for Ms. Tina to stop and help others to find their way or listen to their problems. With that “aura” about her, it says to everyone that she genuinely cares about others.
According to Custodial Supervisor Carol Saunders, “Tina’s work ethic, her attitude, her attention to detail, and her willingness to go the extra mile is what sets her apart. She takes care of the building like it was her own home.”
Recently, Excellence Awards for faculty members were renamed “Faculty Fellows” that included: Beth Ruta, David Wollert, Sherri Barnes, Andrew Maginniss, William Shifflett, Shawn Brabham, and Jody Hancock. All 2014-15 Faculty Fellows and Excellence Award winners will be recognized during Chattanooga State’s 41st annual commencement exercises on May 9.
