World War II Veteran Retired As Postal Inspector In Chattanooga

Theodore E. "Ted" Shelton of Chattanooga passed away peacefully at home on August 19, 2017.

He was born in Hugo, Oklahoma and graduated from high school there in 1943. Shortly after graduation, he joined the Navy Seabees and served until the duration of World War II in the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific.

After discharge he joined the postal service as a clerk in San Diego, California. He later became a postal inspector. Over the years he was assigned in North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Washington DC, and San Francisco. During these assignments, he attended night school and earned a bachelor's degree. He retired as postal inspector in charge in 1979 in Chattanooga. He was a member of Silverdale Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Shelton; his sons, Theodore E., Jr. and Charles Edwin; daughter, Jane Vale; grandsons, Matthew Vale, Joshua Vale, Johnathon Shelton, and Turner Shelton; sister, Wynona A. Bailey and niece, Pam Sammons both of Alpharetta, Ga.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 23, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Charlie Hyder officiating. Burial will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
