Chattanooga Accountant Selected For "Top 10 Rising Stars" Award

  • Monday, November 2, 2015

The National Academy of Public Accounting Professionals has selected Matthew Stelzman, of Henderson Hutcherson & McCullough as one of the 2015 "Top 10 Public Accounting Professional Rising Stars" in Tennessee. The award is designed to recognize outstanding public accounting professionals who have been practicing for less than 15 years.

"We are very pleased to recognize Mr. Stelzman, whose expertise, leadership and impressive achievements in the field of public accounting while practicing for less than 15 years have earned him this significant honor," said Paul Witte, executive director of NAPAP.

A primary charter of the National Academy of Public Accounting Professionals is to recognize and distinguish the top public accounting professionals in each state. The accountants who make the NAPAP "Top 10 Rising Stars" list demonstrate an extensive amount of knowledge, skill, experience and success in the field of accounting, while practicing for less than 15 years. To achieve this award, the accountants must first be nominated by industry peers or satisfied clients.

The nominees are reviewed by the NAPAP research committee, which evaluates each nominee's credentials against the award criteria, and compiles a list of finalists from which the NAPAP Board of Governors selects the Top 10 Rising Stars. Selection criteria include education, years of experience, areas of expertise, certifications, publications, awards, leadership, and client satisfaction.

Mr. Stelzman is a manager with Henderson Hutcherson & McCullough. He has more than 12 years of experience providing forensic, business valuation and litigation support services. He focuses mainly on services that relate to litigation disputes, including marital dissolution, personal injury, damages cases or wrongful death. For the past eight years, he has also specialized in the valuation of automobile dealerships.

Mr. Stelzman is a published author and frequent presenter. He is also a member of the Editorial Board for the Valuation and Litigation Briefing, and a member of the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts' Litigation Forensics Board. In addition, he has served as an adjunct instructor of Finance and Entrepreneurship at both Bryan College and UTC.

Mr. Stelzman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and a Master of Business Administration from UTC. He maintains a Master Analyst in Financial Forensics certification as well as a Certified Valuation Analyst certification and an Accredited Senior Appraiser certification.

Mr. Stelzman's professional affiliations include the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants, the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts, and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
