The Chattanooga women’s basketball team heads to South Carolina this week to take on Wofford Thursday in Spartanburg then on to Greenville for a Saturday matchup at Furman.
The Mocs are on a four-game win streak and half a game behind Mercer in the Southern Conference standings at second. UTC shot 63.8 percent from the field in its last out, defeating UNCG 85-65 and was 9-of-15 (60%) from beyond the arc.
Abbey Cornelius leads the Mocs with 13.4 points and 9.7 rebounds per game and has 25 blocks this season. Dena Jarrells was 5-for-5 from beyond the arc and scored a career-high 23 points against the Spartans and is second on the team in scoring with 9.9 points per game. She averages 3.1 assists per game and is third in the SoCon with a 0.9 assist-turnover ratio. Amaria Pugh is third on the team in scoring with 9.1 points per game and averaged 14.3 over the last seven games.
Wofford fell on the road at Mercer (67-53) for its first loss in the SoCon this season. The Terriers had a season-high 22 turnovers against the Bears and shot just 34.5 percent. Wofford leads the conference in scoring with 66.4 points per game and is second in scoring margin, outpacing opponents by 2.4 points per game. From the 3-point line and the free throw line, Wofford leads the SoCon and has a league-best 7.9 long-range shots per game.
