Chattanooga residents interested in making a difference in the lives of Alzheimer’s patients are invited to give blood on Monday.
From 12-3 p.m. at Morning Pointe Senior Living & Memory Care, 7719 Shallowford Road, Blood Assurance will be hosting a mobile blood drive. The Hamilton County-based blood center plans to donate $5 to the Alzheimer’s Association for each blood donor it welcomes.
The Alzheimer’s Association is the world’s largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer’s and all other dementia research.
“We hope the community will rally around this initiative," said Christopher Swafford, chief executive operating officer for Blood Assurance. "It’s a wonderful opportunity to save countless lives. A few minutes out of your day will not only support local patients in need of a blood transfusion, but the vital research that’s being done to combat a devastating disease that affects nearly 6 million Americans.”
Donors can visit www.bloodassurance.org/morningpointe, call 800-962-0628, or text BAGIVE to 999777, to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins will be accepted.
To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids — avoiding caffeine — and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating.
