Adella Sims Flemister, lovingly known as “Ma” and “Granny” was born on December 29, 1940, in Chambers County, Alabama, to Jonah and Carrie Jones Sims. She went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 29, 2021, at Parkridge Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Adella was a faithful member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where she served for many years.  “Ma” had a big heart and lovingly gave to whoever asked. She read the Bible, loved to quote scriptures, and wanted to see souls saved. She was a source of help for many of her nieces and nephews. She was a hardworking mom and kept things very tidy and loved to cook. In addition, she served as a foster grandparent for the Chattanooga Foster Grandparent Program mentoring and tutoring children for the future.

The tears that have and will be shed are not of sadness, but of pure joy.  She will not experience the pains of this world anymore. She will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Lee Flemister, Sr; five brothers, Jonah, Robert, Willie, Ransom, and John Westly Sims; two sisters, Mattie Lue Jennings and Fannie Lee Rivers.

She leaves to cherish her memory, son, Richard Lee (Tina) Flemister Jr.; grandson, Elkanah Flemister; brother, Daniel Sims, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; three sisters, Grace Whitlow and Bernice Marbury, of Lanett, Alabama, and Geneva Sims, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; devoted nephews and nieces; a host of other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be from 2-6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12, at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 13, at 12:30 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Arrangements by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 423 622-9995.
