Gregory Rene Davenport was born on June 12, 1953, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to the late Clarence and Callie Davenport. On Wednesday, July 14, 2021, Gregory Davenport entered eternal rest.

He accepted Christ at an early age and rededicated his life in 2018. He was a proud graduate of Howard High School, class of 1971. He joined the United States Marines in March of 1972, where he received an honorable discharge.

Gregory later attended Virginia College in 2009, where he received his Associate’s Degree in Business. He was a former employee of Norfolk Southern Railway and Velsicol Chemical Corporation in Chattanooga.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence C. Davenport and Callie S. Davenport; daughter, Queena Davenport; brothers, Calvin L. Davenport, and Wayman E. “Butterball” Davenport; nephew, Dale “Tony” Anderson.

He leaves to cherish his memories, two children, LaRhonda Davenport Wyatt and Kenric Davenport; sister, Phyllis Diane (David) McKnight; brother, Michael Davenport; six grandchildren, Markia Johnson, Tierra Davenport, Andrea Davenport, Kedric Richardson, Kenric Davenport Jr., Renaejah Davenport; two great-grandchildren, Taraji Benford and Armani Pitmon; nephews, Clarence Anderson, Larry Anderson, Calvin “C.L.” Davenport, Domonique Davenport, Daniel Davenport; nieces, Sue Anderson, Michaela Davenport, and Callie Davenport, all of Chattanooga; a host of other relatives and dear friends.

Public viewing will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 26, at John P. Franklin.

Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
