Freddie Mae Thornton, 74, passed away on July 27, 2021, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
She was born on July 24, 1947, to her parents Wesley Allen Brown and Annie Ruth Rutherford. Freddie was a graduate of Riverside High School, class of 1967.
She retired from Memorial Hospital after 35 years of service as a dietary clerk.
Freddie loved to cook. She also enjoyed dancing. She had a great sense of humor and compassion for others. She genuinely possessed a golden heart for life.
Freddie Mae devoted 10 years of service to the Foster Grandparent Program.
She also served as president of the Someone to Care Ministry at the Union Hill Baptist Church where she worked faithfully.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley Allen Brown and Annie Ruth Rutherford.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons Robert A. Brown, Sr., of Chattanooga and Derrick L. Thornton of Manassas, Virginia; brothers, Fred Brown (her twin), and George C. Brown, both of Chattanooga; five grandchildren, Shayla Johnson, Robert A. Brown, Jr., Brandii Brown, Devin Thornton, and Kyle Thornton; nine great grandchildren; specially noted friends and loved ones, Rebecca V. Brown and Robert F. Grier. Best friends, Tina Carlisle Verrita King; a host of other cousins, family, and friends.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, Aug. 6, from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. chapel service at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.
