Blue Tornado Advances To DII-AA Quarterfinals

  • McCallie blew out Pope John Paul II 10-3 on Friday.
  • The Blue Tornado fired up the offense in the first inning, when carter Hewitt homered on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.
  • McCallie (22-12) pulled away for good with four runs in the third inning.
    In the third Ralston Welch singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs and an error scored one run for the Blues.
  • Olin Johnson earned the win for McCallie, going seven innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out eight.
  • Sam Jackson took the loss for Pope John Paul II. jackson lasted two innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out two and walking zero.
  • The Blue Tornado tallied two home runs on the day. Hudson Calhoun had a dinger in the sixth inning. Hewitt had a four bagger in the first inning.
  • McCallie racked up 13 hits. Hewitt, Nolan Sergeant, Sebastian Leinberger, J. Michael Pierce, and Welch all managed multiple hits for the Blue Tornado. sergeant and Hewitt each collected three hits to lead McCallie. Jaden Copeland led McCallie with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with five stolen bases.
  • The Blue Tornado will travel to Nashville on Friday, May 20th, to face CPA in a DII-AA quarterfinal game.
