State Representative Ron Travis Elected To Key Leadership Position By Peers In Nashville

  • Thursday, December 11, 2014
State Representative Ron Travis was elected by his peers to the Joint Fiscal Review Committee during a formal meeting to elect the next round of leaders in Nashville.

The meeting, which occurs every two years, is attended by all Republican members of the House of Representatives. Currently, Republicans hold 73 of the 99 seats in the House.

“It is very humbling to be entrusted by my friends and colleagues in Nashville with such an important task for the people of our state,” said Rep.
Travis.  “I will work hard on this committee to ensure the best decisions are made for the taxpayers of Tennessee.”

The function of the Fiscal Review Committee is to conduct a continuing review of items such as revenue collections, budget requests, state appropriations, and the condition of various state funds. The Fiscal Review Committee, one of several oversight committees, was created by statute in 1967 as a special committee of the General Assembly. The committee is composed of six senators and nine representatives, elected by members of the Senate and House of Representatives respectively. In addition, the Speaker of each house and the Chairman of the Finance, Ways and Means Committee of each house serve as ex-officio members.

"I want to congratulate Representative Travis on becoming a member of the Fiscal Review Committee. That our colleagues entrusted to him to such an important leadership position speaks volumes of his character," said Speaker Beth Harwell. "I look forward to continuing to work with Rep. Travis on the important issues facing our state."

Rep. Travis is currently a member of the House Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee and the House Insurance & Banking Committee. He is serving his second term in the Tennessee General Assembly and represents District 31, which includes all of Rhea, Bledsoe, Sequatchie and a portion of Roane Counties.
