Enforce Reasonable Speed Limits At I-24/I-75 Interchange - And Response (2)

Re: $70 million project to improve I-24/I-75 Interchange:

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just enforce reasonable speed limits in the areas the Interstates go through Chattanooga using speed cameras and designated officers of the law?

Certainly would help with the tractor trailer trucks who never seem to get speeding tickets but I have rarely seen one pulled over in Hamilton County for years.

During daylight hours slow down; at night after shopping hours have at it.

It's hard to slow down traffic that isn't moving because of the bottlenecks in the existing interchange.

Enforcing speed limits would require a law enforcement presence on Chattanooga's interstates. I'm not sure when the last time I saw a CPD officer patrolling or shooting radar on the interstate. The HCSD doesn't do it either. I've heard rumor that the THP and the CPD cannot agree to enforce the laws here because neither one is funded to do so.

I think this is why Bradley County and Dalton always seem to catch the interstate traffickers. Maybe it works out well since they pick up some speed in our lawless lanes just before crossing over into their jurisdiction. Kind of a "good cop, bad cop" thing we have going on.
