East Lake Community Center Celebrates Grand Re–opening On Sunday

  • Thursday, January 26, 2023

The grand re-opening of the East Lake Community Center, which has been closed since March 2021 for extensive renovation, will be on Sunday, from 2-4 p.m.

The new, 16,000-square-foot facility sits on eight acres and features a range of new and enhanced amenities and spaces.

“Chattanooga’s community centers strengthen the fabric of our neighborhoods, and I’m thrilled that our East Lake community now has an incredible new space where neighbors can recreate, socialize, and learn together in a safe environment,” said Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly.

“With new, resident-focused programming and expanded gym and multimedia spaces, the revitalized center will brighten and unite the East Lake neighborhood.”

“Great neighborhoods are made up of great shared spaces, and the new East Lake Community Center will bring kids, families, and neighbors together for years to come,” said City Council Vice Chair Raquetta Dotley. “This is how we build stronger communities – together.”

The re-opening celebration will be open to the public, offering residents an opportunity to learn about the history of the center and how the new facility was created to support the needs of the East Lake community. Residents will be able to tour the Center’s health and wellness and recreational spaces, while learning about new programming curated with East Lake residents in mind.

“We strive to provide the residents of Chattanooga a center that not only serves those who live within the community, but a neighborhood hub that will provide resources, programs, and activities to enhance their quality of life,” said Tony Sammons, Administrator of the City’s Department of Community Development. “The East Lake Community Center will be an inclusive safe environment for all neighborhood residents, community stakeholders and visitors.”

The event will be at 3610 Dodds Ave., and speakers include Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly, City Council Vice Chair Raquetta Dotley, Deputy Administrator for Community Development Don Walker, and community representatives.
