Deborah Sue “Debbie” Chadwick
Deborah Sue “Debbie” Chadwick, 61, of Hixson, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
Debbie lived a big life that defied expectations and stereotypes and brought joy and light to every room she entered. She was a seasoned traveler, enthusiastic off-key singer, fantastic bowler and a dancing queen. She loved making crafts, listening to music, the color purple and her Tennessee Vols.
Born in 1963, Debbie spent many years at the Orange Grove Center in Chattanooga. She flourished there learning many new skills and making lifelong friends. She participated in the Special Olympics for decades, winning medals in skiing, swimming, bowling and many other categories.
Debbie truly loved working and held many jobs over the years including Gentle Foot Care and Dairy Queen. She also volunteered at Life Care Centers in Chattanooga and was a beloved presence who accumulated over 4,300 hours of service. She was recognized for her service with a Volunteer of the Year award which earned her trips to both Florida and Texas as well as the President’s Volunteer Service Award presented to her in person by President George W. Bush.
Debbie was a cherished daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who touched many lives and knew no stranger. Her life was fully lived and she will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Mary Chadwick Sr.; brothers, Louis Chadwick Jr. and Michael Chadwick.
Survivors include her sister, Barbara Teague; and nieces: Adrienne, Lisa and Juanita; as well as many more beloved family and friends.
Visitation is from 12-4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday in the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
