Shirley Thomas Baugh, a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, died on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at her home in Hixson.

Shirley was office manager for Thomas Brothers Construction Company for over 20 years. She, along with husband, James "Buddy" Baugh, was the co-owner of Baugh Trucking, Inc. During the 1990s Shirley also owned a guardrail business.

She was a graduate of Red Bank High School and the Mackenzie School of Business. Shirley was an automobile enthusiast and helped form the automobile club "Corvette Chattanooga" in 1969. When she purchased her new, red 1969 Corvette convertible, the sales staff at Newton Chevrolet told her that to their knowledge she was one of the first females in Chattanooga to order a new Corvette.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James W. and Elsie Bingham Thomas, Sr.

She is survived by her devoted husband, James "Buddy" Baugh, who provided her with loving care during her long illness; loving care-giving sister, Betty Thomas (Daniel) Smith; godniece, Angela Ballard (Mike), Chattanooga; godnephew, Daniel D. (Shea) Smith, Jr., Nashville; great-nephews, Zack and Ben Ballard; brother, Paul B. Thomas (Pat), Hixson; another brother and multiple nephews and nieces.

The family wishes to extend a special "thank you" to her very loving and care-giving cousin, Evelyn Patterson, and the wonderful people of Hospice of Chattanooga.

Shirley was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a celebration of her life and to the glory of God will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 2, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Reverend Art Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, and from 10-11:30 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Shirley's memory may be honored with a memorial contribution to Hospice of Chattanooga, or the Alzheimers Association, as well as to other charities of your choice.
