Hampson, Anita H.

Held Long Career In Nursing, Retiring From Memorial Hospital

  • Tuesday, April 22, 2014

Anita H. Hampson, beloved wife of the Rev. Arthur G. Hampson, in a local hospital on Monday, April 21, 2014.

Anita was a graduate of Marion County High School and following her graduation there she entered the Nursing Program at Erlanger Hospital.  She worked much of her adult life as an R.N. and was praised for the tender, loving, and compassionate way she had in dispensing her TLC.  She finished her career at Memorial Hospital, retiring in January of 2002.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur and two children, Ernest D. Peoples, Jr. and Melinda E. West plus several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Anita was a member of Mowbray Mountain Presbyterian Church where, along with her husband, they were leaders of the congregation for over twenty years.  Along with her love of family and church she had a deep commitment to canine friends needing a new home.  In the yard where she loved to work there are several trees that were planted to celebrate the dogs that had passed through her care on the way to others.

Among the many achievements for which Anita won praise, the two she was most proud of were being named "Employee of the Year" at Memorial Hospital and being voted "Woman of the Year" by her Mowbray Presbyterian family.

There will be no viewing prior to a Service of Remembrance to he held on Friday, April 25, at 7 p.m. at Mowbray Presbyterian Sanctuary.

The family requests that no flowers be sent, and that in lieu of flowers, gifts be made to the American Heart Association or other favored charities.

Arrangements are by Legacy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Soddy Daisy.
