Dalton State Women Second at SCAD Atlanta Golf Invitational

  • Wednesday, September 7, 2016
The Dalton State Women's Golf team continued their hot start to the season on Wednesday, breaking the school record they set the previous day by recording a team total of 287, en route to a second place finish at the SCAD Atlanta Invitational.  Junior Caroline Griffin and Freshman Isabel Rijos paced the way for the Roadrunners with each posting an even-par-71.

Griffin would finish in fifth place, while Rijos finished seventh in her first collegiate tournament.  Two other Lady Roadrunners would finish in the top 10, with Freshman Tia Teiniketo finishing in ninth at 3-over-par, and Sophomore Katie Dalton finishing in tenth at 5-over-par.

"I could not be more proud of the girls, what a way to start the season," said Roadrunner coach Jim McGrew.

"Obviously our goal is to win, but our effort and fight was what I was hoping to see.
Katie hurt her wrist with 5 holes left and fought through it to finish the last five holes in 1-under.  Isabel birdied her last five holes, Caroline made the All-Tournament Team, Tia played great both days, and Haejin made her college debut and played solid.  We showed ourselves that we have a chance to be really good.  We still have work to do, but what a great start."

Dalton State tied winner SCAD Atlanta with the best team round of the day at 3-over-par to take sole possession of second place.  The Lady Roadrunners will tee it up again on September 17th and 18th at the LPGA International Course in Daytona Beach, Florida in the Lady Falcon Invitational.
