On the final day of the regular season, the Lee University softball team fell to 14-16 in Gulf South Conference play after a loss to the West Florida Argonauts 11-0. Despite the loss, the Lady Flames earned a berth to the GSC championship for the first time since the 2022 season.
The first inning was tough defensively for the Lady Flames giving up three runs in the first inning alone. The first run included the Argonauts Gianna Guerriero scoring off of an RBI by Junior Erin Moon.
West Florida continued to capitalize off of single’s scoring the next two runs off of them.
In the second inning, West Florida continued to play well, scoring five runs, capitalizing off Lee’s mistakes Not only did the Flames struggle defensively, they struggled offensively as well, with three batters in a row striking out.
West Florida’s success continued in the third inning scoring three runs. Argonauts’ Hannah Harper homered to right centerfield allowing senior Madelyn Vasquez and junior Erin Moon to score, making it 18 homeruns on the year for Harper.
Argonauts’ pitcher Montana Young also had a strong game, striking out eight hitters on the day, one away from her season high (nine). Only two Lee batter’s, Rylie Goodridge and Bella Galloway collected hits.
The Lady Flames will look to bounce back in GSC Quarterfinals against the Mississippi College Choctaws on Wednesday, May 1 in Oxford, Ala. at 7 PM.
