Rev. Daniel Lyvers
First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) announces the upcoming installation service for their new Senior Minister Rev. Daniel Lyvers. The event is planned for 2 p.m. on Saturday at 650 McCallie Ave. in Chattanooga. A reception will follow the event.
Rev. Lyvers previously served for four years as the associate minister at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Bowling Green, Ky., and for two and a half years as the associate minister at Heart of the Rockies Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Fort Collins, Co.
– two congregations he said he loves deeply.
Rev. Lyvers graduated with a master of divinity from Vanderbilt University Divinity School, where he was a Disciples Divinity Scholar and recipient of the J.D. Owen Prize for Excellence in New Testament Studies. Prior to that, he graduated from Transylvania University with a B.A. in history and a minor in political science.
In addition to his work in congregational ministry, Rev. Lyvers believes in the importance of participating in the work of the wider denomination as a way of "supporting the work of expanding the table, seeking wholeness and cultivating justice," and is an alumni of the Bethany Fellows, serves on the board for Disciples Home Missions, Be the Neighbor and Transylvania University’s Alumni Council.
Rev. Lyvers believes that at the heart of his call to ministry is to simply set the table and hopes to create spaces where folks can be courageous and curious, find connection and belonging, experience God’s affirming welcome, literally break bread together and be sent out to share in the work of love, openness and hospitality.
He loves hanging outside with his brindle hound dog, Chloe, playing around on the banjo, listening to live music (especially the Avett Brothers), and all things Kentucky – particularly the basketball.
