Helen McCall Harris, 91, went home to heaven on Saturday, September 8, 2018, after a long illness. She died peacefully, surrounded by love, with her children and granddaughter at her side.

Mrs. Harris, the daughter of Mattie and Joe McCall, was raised in Birmingham with her six brothers and sisters of whom she was the last survivor. After graduating from Parker High School, Mrs. Harris left for a two-year stint in Pennsylvania and Tennessee where she attended college before before returning to Alabama and marrying fellow Birmingham resident Bennie Harris. After having two children, the family moved to Chattanooga, where Mrs. Harris worked at the Chattanooga Gas Company while her husband became a local judge.

Mrs. Harris, always constant in her relationship with God, moved back to Birmingham following the 1996 death of her husband and became an active member of Faith Chapel Christian Center. For years, she was a member of Manna Ministry and rarely missed a Sunday morning in church.

Mrs. Harris leaves behind her devoted children, Bennie (Janet) and Patrice; her adored granddaughter, Noelle; a brother-in-law, Newstell; two sisters- in-law, Mamie and Ruth; and many loved nieces and nephews.

Services were held previously in Birmingham.

Local arrangements are by John P. Franklin Funeral Home.
