Frances Irene Cohagan Bailey, 73, of Hixson, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2019.

She was born in Columbus, Ohio to the late Ralph and Lora Frances Cohagan.  Irene was a 1964 graduate of Columbus North High School and attended The Ohio State University.  She retired from Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz Law Firm with over 20 years of service. 

She had collections of photo albums, covering 50 years, that she put together with captions of her family’s life.  Irene cherished her family and was the grandchildren’s biggest fan at their events.  She loved working in the yard, gardening barefooted and loved getting dirt under her fingernails.  Irene enjoyed every kind of music and especially attending the annual Riverbend Festival and collected every Riverbend pin. Irene was an avid football fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and attended various bowls and national championship games.  She never met a stranger; she was a Scrabble queen and loved holidays and special occasions with her family. She loved to perform Christmas story skits with her grandchildren and enjoyed baking monster cookies and chocolate-covered buckeyes.  While living in Kokomo, In., she was the executive director of Meals on Wheels; held various leadership roles in Cub Scouts and a member of The Indiana Mother of Twins Club. After moving to Chattanooga, she served with Room In the Inn, American Red Cross and Colonial Shores Neighborhood Association.

Irene is survived by her husband of more than 51 years, Dan Bailey; children, Doug (Becky) Bailey, Ron (Deborah) Bailey, and Marc (Mandy) Bailey; grandchildren, Sydney and Grayson Bailey, Josh and Jaret Bailey, Baileigh (Jacob) Davis, Jack and Cooper Bailey, and Stephanie (Josh) Czajkowski; great grandchildren, Jonah and Luke Czajkowski; siblings and other relatives, Ralph (Geri) Cohagan, Carol (Wayne) Evans, Donna (Paul) Barlow and Jody (Jesse) Martinez; many other nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, and 10-11 a.m. on Friday, April 26, at The North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at The North Chapel with Dr. David Haynes officiating.
