Carl Thomas Ash, Jr., 88, departed this life on Sunday, May 12, 2019. His beloved wife of 67 years, Dorothy Irene Ash, 93, followed him home one week later on Sunday, May 19, 2019.

Carl and Irene were longtime residents of East Ridge. For over 50 years they were members of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church and cherished the many friends they made in the Pioneer Sunday School Class and the Fifty-Five and Alive.

Carl was the accountant and office manager of Stein’s Construction Company for over 35 years. He was an avid reader and a lifelong learner. He also enjoyed his cattle farm, gardening, woodworking, and fishing with friends and family. Irene was a talented seamstress and cook. Everyone she loved had a pantry filled with canned goods and a hand stitched quilt on the bed.

Carl was predeceased in death by his mother and step-father, Ruby and Robert M. (Teck) Clark and his father, Carl T. Ash, Sr.

Irene was predeceased in death by her mother and father, Nora May and General Hardy Morrow, Sr.; and siblings, Nelle Morrow, Lora Morrow, Leola Morrow, Hattie Morrow Prince, Clara Morrow Weeks, Clarence (Bob) Morrow, General Hardy Morrow, Jr., John Morrow, Leonard Morrow, and Luther (Boots) Morrow.

Carl and Irene were devoted parents of Vicki Ash Everett (David) of Chattanooga, and the doting grandparents of Ashley Everett Moore (Duncan) of Oxford, Ms., Alexis Caroline Everett of Chattanooga, TN, and David Malone Everett (Eliza) of Chattanooga. Their niece, Cindy Gray (Earl) of Ft. Oglethorpe, also held a special place in their hearts. Other loved survivors include many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to Carl’s and Irene’s caregivers: Valerie Erskine, Alberta Gatford, Joyce Stephens, Vernita Taylor, and especially Apryl Bridgeman, Kandace Bridgeman, and Robin Pruitt.

A graveside service to celebrate Carl’s and Irene’s lives will be held Friday May 24, at 11 a,n, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Hixson in the Chapel of Devotion with the Rite Reverend Dr. Hunter H. Huckabay officiating. Honorary pallbearers are the Pioneer Class of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church.
