Michael Lamar Chaney, age 65, of Chickamauga, Georgia, and formerly of Dalton, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

He was born May 23, 1955 to the late William T. Chaney and Sallie Mae Blackwell Chaney. He attended Georgia Northwestern Technical College and is an honorable veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Mountain Ridge Baptist Church and attended Marble Top Baptist Church.

He is preceded by his parents and sisters, Diane Chaney Grissett and Juanita Chaney Wright.

He is survived by his loving family, wife of eight years, Mary R. Upshaw Adams Chaney; sons, William Wheat, Steven Chaney, Brandon Storey, Torey Watkins, Jeffery Blackwell, George McCutchins, Corey Wooten, and Denorris (Jessica) Johnson; daughters, Brittany Chaney, Chaketa Gossett, Pamela M. Gossett, and Elizabeth Knox; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; sisters, Renee Bowie, Elfrida Banks, and Anna Blalock; sisters-in-law, Penny Strickland, Channel (David) Alexander; and Janice Johnson; brothers-in-law, Roy Gene Upshaw Sr., Columbus (Denise) Upshaw Sr., Roger Upshaw, and Stacy (Sharon) Upshaw Sr.; aunt, Maggie Smith; uncles, Jeff (Tracia) Coats, Ralph (Lynne) Clemons; James Clemons, Johnny (June) Clemons, and Casper Bailey; special life-long friends, Jimmy Willis and Iva Lee Macon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

The funeral service will be Sunday, Jan. 24, at 1 p.m. at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Clinton Waller as eulogist.

He will lie in state at the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 23, after 12 p.m. and family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. 

Interment will be at West Hill Cemetery.
