Guimarães
The Gulf South Conference announced its yearly tennis awards as voted by the coaches Wednesday evening. Lee University’s Francisco Guimarães was named the 2026 GSC Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Year and was one of six Lee athletes to earn All-GSC recognition.
Guimarães completed the regular season with a 15-4 overall record. He was 10-2 in dual matches and 6-2 against GSC competition. He was 1-0 at No. 3 singles, 4-0 at No. 4 singles and 5-2 in the fifth position. In doubles competition, Guimarães posted a 16-3 record with a 10-2 mark in dual matches and 6-1 against the GSC.
Along with the Freshman of the Year recognition, he was also named Second Team All-GSC.
Joining Guimarães on the All-GSC list were Filipe Krohn, Quinn Groenendijk, Jip Langerhuizen and Stefan Mos. Krohn and Groenendijk were First Team All-GSC, while Langerhuizen and Mos joined Guimarães as Second Team All-GSC. The lone women’s honoree was Rima Yoshida who earned a spot on the women’s First Team.
Krohn went 18-7 with a 10-2 dual record. He was 5-3 against the GSC at the No. 1 singles position. The senior was also 14-5 in doubles competition with a 4-1 mark in GSC matches.
Groenendijk was 9-5 overall this season with a 6-3 (3-3 GSC) mark in dual matches. He competed at the No. 2 singles position and recorded a 3-1 record against nationally ranked opponents. In doubles competition, he collected 11 wins in 16 matches.
Langerhuizen went 5-3 against GSC competition and was 8-4 in dual matches. He enters the postseason with an overall record of 13-8. Langerhuizen was 13-8 in doubles matches and was 5-3 in dual matches, including a 3-2 mark against the GSC.
Mos was 6-2 at No. 4 singles and 4-0 at No. 3 singles on his way to a 10-2 record in dual matches. Including the fall tournaments, he holds a singles record of 16-6. He is also 14-5 in doubles matches with a 7-1 record in dual matches and is 4-1 against GSC competition.
Yoshida collected 17 wins in 23 singles matches. She was 11-3 in dual matches and 5-3 against GSC opponents at the No. 1 singles position. She posted an overall doubles record of 14-9 and was 8-5 in dual matches at the No. 1 doubles position.
The Flames and Lady Flames begin GSC Championship action on Thursday in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The second-seeded Flames take on Delta State at noon, while the fifth-seeded Lady Flames battle Valdosta State at 6 p.m. The eight-team single-elimination tournaments are being held at the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center.
