UTC Women's Tennis Wins 4-3 Over MTSU

The Chattanooga Mocs women’s tennis team defeated in-state foe Middle Tennessee 4-3 in thrilling fashion its second match of the season on Sunday evening at the Strang-Voges Tennis Center on the campus of The McCallie School. 

Following the victory, Chattanooga improves to 2-0 on the young season. MTSU falls to 1-4 overall following the defeat to the Mocs. After UTC went up 1-0 following the doubles competition, the home squad saw three victories in singles play to clinch the victory. 

The duo of Callie Billman and Jessie Young earned a wild 7-6 decision on Court 1 in doubles play over Alexis Love-Star and Zani Barnard to clinch the team’s first point after Caroline Gibbens and Nicole Abel posted a 6-3 win over Lilly-Sophie Schmidt and Eloise Swarbick to set the stage.  

In singles action, Young and Emma Van Hee each rolled to victories with the former earning a 6-1, 6-2 win over Love-Star and the latter taking a 6-2, 6-1 tally over Noelle Mauro.
The clincher came when Gibbens battled her way to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Love-Star. 

Chattanooga (2-0, 0-0 SoCon) is back in action Saturday when it travels to SEC-member Alabama (2-0, 0-0 SEC) for a 3 p.m. ET showdown against the Crimson Tide. Stick to GoMocs.com for all updates regarding Chattanooga women’s tennis.
